![]() Arena FPS is the most quality dependent among all the FPS. That accounts for most of what an ARENA FPS "has to offer" rather than sheer number of maps or weapon selection. In Nex, I avoid rockets and move backwards ALOT more! The way a game allows you to move along with nuance in the weapon is reason to explore arena fps no matter how similar or how many worlds apart their trappings may appear. In Q3 I like going for rockets and using them as much as possible even when I shouldn't. ![]() I don't play commercial Nex the same way I play Quake 3. ![]() With player movement and weapon handling hopefully being slightly different between any given arena fps and another, they should be considered a big reason for playing one over the other or alongside each other. Now, since online matches have nearly flatlined, you should still get commercial Nex, as I consider it the snazziest bot-match warmup title Steam has to offer an extra flavor of mouthwash after gorging on too much csgo (I know my post is in the context of ARENA shooters and not blanket FPS but I mention csgo for the sake of making the cute sentence). At worst, it was a capable arena shooter that wasn't too concerned about offering crutches to noobs. Eye candy aside, the mechanics had some depth and most of the maps had some thought behind them. The game fuses tropical space jungles with Elizabethian/Victorian ornament without ever being tempted to just settle for something like "steampunk". Because it didn't over-reach for the competitive play that emphasizes minimalist/low-graphics configs, commercial Nexuiz filled a niche while introducing a new vibe. You should get this game because it was the most fun pub arena shooter that wasn't afraid of graphics, style, a little more OST, and overall production. If you are interested, and don t mind paying a couple of dollars for an FPS, then give this Nexuiz a shot, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I played a lot of the orig GPL Nexuiz, and eventually migrated to Xonotic, but the communities at both are smaller than they used to be-I think the new Unreal Tournament has canibalized most of the Nexuiz/Xonotic/Warsow audience, which breaks my heart, because all of these games (along with Toxik) are unique, and deserve to have a larger and stronger player base. The gameplay for thie Nexuiz is great, the maps and modifers are interesting, and I think that is what makes this particular game unique. While some of the weapons and "feel" of this version of Nexuiz are remenisicent of the original GPL version, this version was built from the ground up with the Crytek engine, and it has a completely new look, across the board. That being said, the original community that worked on the free version, now called GPL Nexuiz, did fork the GPL Nexuiz source code to start working on Xonotic when the lead/originator of GPL Nexuiz licensed the IP to Illfonic. The game does stand on its own as a very competant shooter. The visual styling and music are all new and original with this version of Nexuiz.
